The Oriental is a man-made breed that originated in the 1950s in England. After World War II the number of breeders and breeding cats was reduced. Some of the remaining breeders became quite creative as they rebuilt their breeding programs. Russian Blues, British Shorthairs, Abyssinians, and regular domestic cats were crossed to Siamese. The resulting cats were not pointed and were crossed back to Siamese. In surprisingly few generations, there were cats that were indistinguishable from Siamese in all ways except color. As the Siamese pointed color is genetically recessive, pointed kittens were also produced. The best Siamese coloured cats from these crosses went back into the Siamese breed, enlarging and strengthening the Siamese gene pool. The non-pointed cats were the ancestors of our modern Orientals.
So if you like the Siamese, you will love the Oriental! It is everything about the Siamese and more.
The Oriental comes in an awesome variety of colour and pattern, of more than 300 combinations. Their eyes are green, "Oriental" in shape and slant towards the nose (only the Foreign White has blue eyes). Their triangular shaped head, great big beautiful bat-like ears, long neck, tubular muscular body, long slender legs and long whippy tail is a cat you just can't help but notice!
Combined with their super sleek conformation and stylised elegance, their colourful chatty personality is used to get attention and express its many moods.
This extroverted cat is a people-oriented breed - energetic, playful, acrobatic - who enjoys being involved with the entire family, delighted at its antics as it accompanies you through every activity of the day. These gracefully slender cats continue to be playful, spirited and devoted way past their youth.
The Oriental really has a great charisma, and coupled with its smart intellect and sleek appearance what more could you want from a cat that so desperately wants to share its life with you? And a short, fine textured, satin-like coat that neither requires much grooming nor sheds to any degree just altogether make the Oriental the perfect companion.

The Siamese is also one of the most striking and beautiful creatures of the cat world. It is one of the oldest breeds of domestic cat, originating from Thailand then known as Siam in the late 1800's; there are two types - the extreme wedge type that we are breeding and the Traditional or Classic "apple head" Siamese. The "wedgie" with its wonderful large ears and wedge shaped, aristocratic head has evolved from the Classic.
All Siamese are pure white at birth with the colourpoints appearing on the cooler body parts as they mature - ears, head, lower legs, feet and tail.
These stunning cats are scampish by nature and crave active involvement in your life. Like the Oriental they love playing games like fetch, enjoy travel and will walk on a leash.
Long ago seasoned Siamese watchers discovered that there are lap Siamese and shoulder Siamese, this distinction of course, also applies to the Oriental.
Extroverted and energetic these graceful cats have a talent for conversation and will captivate you with their brilliant blue almond shaped eyes, while their lithe, slender bodies will delight in entertaining you with their acrobatic skills. These regal cats are intensely loyal, highly intelligent and command attention. Their short silky coats require minimal grooming and just like the Oriental don't shed to any degree.
